Fast food, your phone, and the church all run the same three moves.
This is no different from the religious industry. The church does the exact same thing as the tech and fast-food industries: inject the yummy, yummy things and crank up the stimulation.
I watched Sahar Yousef explain how the fast food industry and the tech platforms hijack the brain. Three moves, same in both. More stimulation. Less friction. Less satiation. She lays it out around 34 minutes in, so start there. I know the screen half from the inside. A phone quietly took hours from me that I am not getting back. In church the stimulation is the production, the lights and the volume and the arc of the service timed to the minute, and an open Bible looks flat next to it. The friction is gone because the sermon is handed over already digested and the text is optional. The Bereans did the opposite. Acts 17:11 says they examined the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. Daily. And the satiation is gone too. Take the protein and fiber out of the sermon and the hunger stays, and the people come back for more. Proverbs 27:7 says a hungry soul finds every bitter thing sweet. Manufacture the hunger and the food does not have to be good. What are you actually being fed?
